To All Members of the Pacific Coast Entomological Society

The Pan-Pacific Entomologist, like many other small journals, has been beset by publishing problems ranging from decreased submissions and the difficulty of obtaining timely reviews, and to the financial costs to authors through page charges. The Executive Board has discussed our options, and made these decisions:

  1. Page charges will be waived for pre-reviewed manuscripts. Such submissions should be accompanied by at least three (3) signed review sheets. Acceptance of these reviews will be entirely at the discretion of the Subject Editor, who may request further external reviews if necessary, or if the attached pre-reviews lack sufficient rigor. The Pan-Pacific Entomologist Evaluation Sheet is located on our website (link to download Word.doc) and can also be obtained from the Managing Editor, Suzanne Ubick, suzubick@yahoo.com

  2. We now offer an honorarium for timely review of submissions, when reviews are solicited by a Subject Editor. The honorarium amounts to $25, or $100 credit against page charges within The Pan-Pacific Entomologist. These funds may be banked for four years.

  3. Page charges will no longer be increased for pages beyond the first 20 of a manuscript. Application may still be made for a C. P. Alexander Grant to partially offset the costs of the first five (5) pages of the publication, after which all pages will be charged at $35/page for members of The Pacific Coast Entomological Society. Authors not already members of the Society may subscribe at any time prior to publication, at a cost of $25/year for an individual or $26/year for a family, to receive member rates.

Publication costs that will be billed to author/s:

  1. Galley edits. These cost $3 per alteration. The instructions for Final Preparation for Press are available on our website. These will be billed by PCES.
  2. Color plates. These will also be billed to the author by PCES.
  3. Reprints. These are billed to the author by Allen Press.

Please note that The Pan-Pacific Entomologist is now available through BioOne, and PDFs are available through its website.
